VN-99C 'Cobalt-C' Coil Carbine

(Art By Arieg/Marines203)
See Also - Armaments of the Colonial Pact

The carbine or 'compact' variant of the Cobalt weapon family, it is a dual mode heavy caliber coil gun system intended for service either with boot infantry units or with the flick of a switch service with power armor or exosuits via the rifles alternate output mode. While trading the increased weight of such a weapon and the reduced ability due to having to operate as a regular infantry weapon (IE the weight cannot exceed what a man can carry) it still employs a large caliber projectile and allows those employing it to only have to stock one weapon system. The Cobalt-C features a very effective electromagnetic coil system to serve as the primary means of firing its projectiles, as stated previously these are large 13.5 mm EM rounds. Primarily intended to stop targets with one or two hits the weapon is non-the less capable of controlled low RPM automatic fire. What makes the weapon and the cobalt family of systems unique is a easily changed barrel system allowing for the installation of a very effective sound neutralizing barrel shroud reducing the noise impulse of the weapon down to something akin to a human cough.

Weapon Mechanisms

  • Linear Counter Recoil System
An inbuilt moving counterweight to reduce the force of the weapon's recoil on the user, it is powered and operated by the same system that gives the rifle its electromagnetic boost.
  • Weapon Attachment Rails
There two rail attachment systems on the Raza, the first being one below the barrel this one being somewhat small and only intended for weapon light or laser systems and the second being the on characteristic 'flat top' rail mount on top of the weapon. Both employ contact digital link systems.
  • BZM-89 (CMPC) Common Micro Power Cell
The Raza employs a BZM-89 power cell located inside the pistol grip to provide a source of power for the rifle's on board computer and miscellaneous systems, primary power for the weapon's linear accelerator is provided via the magazine's battery. Replacing the battery is as simple as unscrewing the spent device and screwing in a new one, much like a lightbulb.
  • SV90 Standard Lightweight Shielding
SV90 type applique is used on the inside of the carbines's frame to act as a dampener against exotic particles and waveforms which may damage the weapon's operating mechanisms.
  • Sighting System
The rifle features a flat top rail system to allow for the mounting for a wide variety of systems and optics however it lacks any kind of iron sights. Instead if a user has the right personal hardware suite or cybernetics it produces a standard augmented reality sight.
  • Ejection Port
Normally not needed for the carbine's operation due to it being a semi-cased system (the case being a EM sabot ejected from the barrel) if a jam or failure to fire occurs or the weapon needs to be cleared the user can press down on this port and slide it open to access the firing chamber. When open the user need only cycle the bolt to eject the round currently in the firing chamber.

Weapon Interfaces

  • Firing Selector
The manual method of switching the carbine's firing mode is via a four position switch on the inside of the rifle's handguard forward of the trigger. The weapon's firing mode can be changed on the fly via the weapon's Common Power and Digital Link system if the user has the proper equipment or cybernetic implants.
  • Adjustable Stock
The stock pad of the Raza can be adjusted via a push button mechanism that allows the large solid piece which links into the weapons recoil reduction system to move forward or backwards, allowing the user to find the optimum distance for the operation of their weapon.
  • Weapon Charging Mechanism
The carbine employs an ambidextrous non reciprocating charging handle that can be moved to either side of the weapon's frame. When not in use the handle folds down flush against the frame in order to reduce its profile and or the risk of snagging.
  • Weapon Status Displays
There are two hardened weapon status displays on the rifle, a general one displaying weapon power status and remaining ammunition on both sides of the rifle slightly above and forward of the trigger.
  • Magazine Release
Located just behind the thumbhole of the carbine, it is a pull down latch that will drop the magazine free of the weapon when pulled straight down at least one inch. It is located on both sides of the magazine and only requires one to be pulled in order to drop the magazine.
