Armor Standards and Systems of the Colonial Pact

Below are the most common armor and additional bolt of 'hard' defenses employed by the Colonial Pact and select client states, these are detailed and wiki code links to them are provided below.

Standardized Armor Types

Standardized armor types are listed and described in this section.

'Apparition' Adaptive Multispectral Coating

A digitally controlled power hungry system that is present on the any given platform's outer body or hull, it is a active stealth system designed to reduce to the ultraviolet, visible, and infrared signature of the platform by up to ninety percent during regular operations and up to 99 during low power operations. It can also alter the visual appearance of the platform to resemble a smaller structure at a distance. However ambient conditions, the condition of the vessel, and the ability of the enemy's sensors can reduce this performance.

979-M Standard Military Grade Plating

A standard staple in both military and civil applications across vehicles, subcraft, and starships, the 979-M Standard is perhaps the most common construction found in most hulls or structures. Consisting of a composite plating set it a Decasteel framework, the standard hull plating of the Fromm's structure is that of a layered 'cake' starting with an outer layer of Cerrosteel. Primarily intended to reduce, absorb, or disperse the threat of incoming energy weapons and shatter kinetic weapons. Behind this layer is a smaller plating set consisting of multiple layers of Decasteel cubes wrapped in a Kylar Polymer/Ensteel mesh. This layer is intended to disperse and absorb those blows which may penetrate the outer Cerrosteel layer. The backing for the standard hull plating consists of a similar Kylar Polymer mesh and alternating layers of insulation, radiological shielding, and hull breach sealant bladders.

990-BV Critical Area Plating

Typically located internally beneath the outer hull plating; this armor type is employed as an additional protective measure wrapped around critical crew areas, vital platform systems, and beneath the platform vertical launch systems and in areas with munitions. It consists of a composite sandwich of alternating layers of Ensteel and Cerrosteel, usually cast and layered one by one. Like the 979-M plating it is also backed by a Kylar Polymer mesh and alternating layers of insulation, radiological shielding, and hull breach sealant bladders.

808-KM Internal Pressure Hull Plating

Internal armored cocoons, typically between primary crew areas and or acting as their internal pressure hull. The ISHP is typically cast Decasteel sections with an interior composite layers of insulation, radiological shielding, and hull breach sealant bladders.

SV90 Standard Lightweight Shielding

Designed with man portable systems in mind, SV90 is a standardized composite sandwich of various non-conductive/conductive materials intended to reduce, restrict, or out right block various waveforms and energetic particles. These particles being items which may compromise, damage, or destroy electronics, personnel, or other essential items and beings. It is primarily used in power armor, weapon systems, lightweight electronics, and various other applications that are to small to employ a barrier shield system to protect them against such threats. While not one hundred percent effective all the time it can none the less buy time for the items employing it or the personnel to move to a safe location.

B980 Power Armor-Type Standard Plate

A Decasteel/Cerrosteel composite wrapped in a Kylar Polymer laminate, these plates are placed over vital areas of the power armor to act as additional protection and as spaced armor in the event a projectile is able to penetrate the plates. However on some systems it is employed as the primary protective layer and principle armor layer. Fully capable of enduring multiple hits of either a kinetic or energy nature within their weight class, they can be replaced in the field in the event of damage which renders them useless.

B990 Power Armor-Type Mesh Armor

A mesh composite of Ensteel wire and spun Kylar Polymer, the FMAL is the primary armor layer between the user and incoming threats on most of the suit's joints and body. It is primarily intended to absorb the incoming kinetic energy of solid rounds as well as disperse or absorb energy weapon bolts that get past the shields. This layer can be repaired using patch kits but more often then not after particularly heavy fighting it will be entirely replaced in specialized facilities either onboard ship or deployed to the combat zone.

B800 Anti-Kinetic Dampening Gel System

The final layer of protection on most platforms between the user and the rigors of operations, a smart fluid that rather then providing direct protection its primary task is to provide inertial dampening to the power armor operator. From both the rigors of maneuvering the system on the ground and in space and from the shock of kinetic or high velocity mass bearing energy bolts.

B811 Flexible Synth-Muscle/Magnetorheological Armor Layer

A powerful under layer consisting of hundreds of smart fluid bladders which also serve as the primary means for the power armor to boost a user's strength and speed (acting as a layer of synthetic muscle over their bodies). It also acts as a final layer of armor, the fluid entering into a high density state when an impact is detected on the surface of the armor. The primary goal of this act is to absorb and reduce the shock to the operator's body and spread the impulse over a larger area. In the event of a breach this fluid will rapidly solidify into a adhesive like substance in order to maintain the suits operational capability.
