Colonial Pact Dual Capability Laser Communication Systems (DCLCS)

Perhaps the most secure manner of sub-light and faster then light communications outside of the direct ship to fixed installation methods employed by quantum systems, laser communications of the Colonial Pact involve a transmitter and receiver optic tuned to a specific wavelength. This paired with the narrow area in which the data bearing beam of light travels offers limited exposure when transmitting and receiving laser based COM traffic. However the downside to this method is this limited range as well as both communicating platforms needing line of sight in order to exchange transmissions. The beams can also be obscured by stellar or man made phenomena reducing performance or outright blocking the beam.

  • Users: Colonial Pact
  • Type: Directional Laser Type Communications
  • Effective and Maximum Range: Theoretically unlimited communication speed however is effected by the light barrier, subspace 'doped' transmitters are roughly 100 times faster then the speed of light but are also effected by time lag after a certain distance.
  • Mount and Related Hardware: Typically a transmitter/receiver optical array on each major facing of the starship or platform.

Availability and Sales

'DCLCS' type systems are primarily used on Colonial Pact military, civil security, and commercial vessels and platforms. However communications systems of this type are often provided to client states or trusted private interests.
