Like its larger brother the 'Kraus' combat pistol, the Rudd is a polymer encased asynchronous linear chem-rail pistol employed by the Colonial Pact as a issued sidearm for higher ranking officers and for issue to those that need a more concealable and lightweight sidearm. This very factor has also made it a popular item in the civil arms and private arms market as a concealed carry weapon.
As stated above the Rudd was designed as a concealable weapon based on the ALP-57U 'Kraus' pistol with its dimensions reduced. As with most size reduction projects certain compromises where made to performance in order to reduce the weapon's size. The largest being the simplification and reduction of the pistol's muzzle compensating device, effectively reducing it to a few forward oriented vents. While still functional the Rudd is far less controllable in automatic fire when compared to its larger brother. Additionally while the magazine size was retained the size of the power cell within was reduced, this was also accompanied by a reduction in barrel length and as such a reduced acceleration coil. While reducing weight and size it has also hampered the muzzle velocity when compared to the larger counterpart. However these compromises come with the bonus of having a still rather capable firearm that can be readily concealed on one's person.
Effectively a more compact twin to the Kraus, notable differences include the reduction in the size of the sights, a shorter overall length, the deletion of the forward rail, and a smaller sized grip. However it still shared the integrated frame charging handle, the jam extraction port on the right size of the pistol, and the same general display/trigger/firing selection group.
