Colonial Pact Common Magnetically Initiated Staged Fusion Drive (CMISFD)

Related articles can be found, here.

A common drive system employing a multistage fusion reaction inside an acceleration containment vessel of some length, it can be scaled from sub-craft size up to that needed by starships and stations. The first stage of the system is the feeding of some liquid fuel into the beginning of the drive, here it is magnetically compressed and moved down into the first ignition chamber. Here it is 'pinched' to the point of fusion the resulting reaction maintained, enhanced, and moved to the next chamber by the flowing magnetic containment field. Here more fuel is added, more fusion products are created and compressed, and then accelerated down the drive to be expelled. Physical and magnetic ducting systems can be employed to direct this high velocity exhaust for steerage.

Availability and Sales

'CMISFD' type systems are primarily used on Colonial Pact Trade Alliance military, civil security, and commercial vessels and platforms. However propulsion systems of this type are often provided to client states or trusted private interests.
