Ammunition
- 'Cased'
Powder, some kind of primer, a projectile/round, and a casing to hold it all. However by this point brass has given way to a variety of materials and various other ignition systems are in play aside from the old style of a primer being struck mechanical firing pin. Weapons that utilize this also must have an 'open' action cycle in order to eject the spent casing.
- 'Caseless'
A system in which the entire cartridge is consumed aside from the components involved with the projectile. Either it is a specialized form of propellent or the magazine is sealed to prevent damage to the rounds before loading. It can utilize a primer or some form of more exotic ignition. Heat accumulation and fouling are a danger with this sort of cartridge.
