A quasi passive and active sensor system employed by Colonial Pact vessels to monitor gravitational influences on the mounted platform and to observe the surrounding state of the space time fabric. This system is primarily utilized as a navigation tool, looking for unseen hazards or gravitational anomalies which may harm the platform the sensor array is mounted on. Additionally it is employed in the process of executing FTL jumps, primarily plotting the route which the ship needs to take in order to avoid the hazards of traversing a strong gravitational influence during a jump. Finally due to the nature of certain power systems or exotic technologies the SFGM can be used in the detection, identification, and targeting of vessels employing exotic extra dimensional technologies which effect space time and gravitational fields (dimensional phasing included).
