====== Colonial Pact ESC-78 Lightweight Hardened Standardized Computer Class ====== Related articles can be found, [[colonial_pact:technologies:computer_standards|here.]]\\ The ESC-78 family of systems, also known as LHSCs, is a design standardization group of hardened rough condition capable computer systems. These bridge the gap between the personal level systems employed by personnel (either personal electronics or those used by exosuits and or power armor) and those mounted on fixed platforms or vehicles. ===== Hardware Information ===== The features required for ESC-78 classification primarily revolve around the computer system being modular, rough handling capable, and being of a certain size and weight class. The first requirement generally results in the system being a single unit with a plug and play style configuration, power and linkages being on one end and a status display and basic interface on the other. The goal of this display to show the systems status as well as allow for basic troubleshooting, the linkages allowing for a personal electronic device to interface with the system for more in depth examination. Like most Pact systems ESC-78 requires the device to be resistant to most forms of rough field conditions, including those caused by mishandling and mishaps. This is mostly ensured via a robust casing, insulating the components from shock, and keeping the device sealed against weather conditions. Finally most if not all systems must not exceed certain dimensions, the most common form being akin to a rather thick text book. ===== Capabilities ===== While not a quantum computer standard, ESC-78 type systems are more then capable of satisfying the needs of their weight class up to and including operating missile systems, plotting FTL jumps, and even advanced fire control. With each unit consisting of a self contained and complete computer system if the processing needs are greater then an individual unit can handle they can be networked in order to boost capability. ===== Availability and Sales ===== ESC-78 type systems are primarily used on [[colonial_pact:colonial_pact_coverpage]] military, civil security, and commercial platforms. However propulsion systems of this type are often provided to client states or trusted private interests.
