Dante-class Project K850 Guided Missile Fleet Destroyer

See Also: Escort and Patrol Vessels of the Colonial Pact

A main line vessel of the Colonial Pact often classified as either a destroyer leader or a pocket cruiser, the Dante-Class Guided Missile Destroyer is the heaviest vessel in the escort/picket size classification and often serves as the flagship of cruiser-less formations. Designed principally by the Oppon Shipyards and Foundry Group (OSF) in 00800 as a more heavily armed version of the Fromm-Class GMD for federal military service as a principle escort vessel it has none the less found its way into the territorial navies of more well off star-states and factions.

Like most Pact vessels the Dante-class employs a mixed set of weapons with its primary long range assets being the vessel's various missile and torpedo systems. It's main battery weaponry is primarily plasma in type, these employing high velocity and high density plasma bolts with moderate to short range capability for mid to long range gunnery duels, close in fighting with hostile vessels, or direct fire on surface or installation targets. Short range combat and point defense is carried out by two main systems, one being a single weapon in the form of a 150 mm semi-automatic railgun and the other being a quad plasma cannon with a secondary surface-to-air missile system. Both of these systems can be left in an automatic engagement mode or directly controlled by the ship's fire control systems and or the crew.

The vessel's interior is considered standard by Colonial Pact military standards, function over form and sometimes over comfort however most crews will attest that the quarters and living conditions on board are comfortable compared to smaller vessels employed in military service. However the various compartments and passages are still utilitarian with exposed junctions, access points to both the overhead and underside crawlspaces, all punctuated by hardened pressure doors that can isolate entire sections in the event of a hull breach.

Active Defenses and Electronic Warfare Systems

Shields
  • (4x) OA-97A30 'Vez'
    Conformal Plasma Field
    Emittion/Containment Systems
    • The Dante employs a 'two-up two-down' arrangement with two emitters being used actively and two in reserve. These systems produce a transparent field of compressed plasma roughly five meters from the surfaces of the vessel, when struck these contained fields are crushed opaque and absorb most if not all of the incoming energy and repel kinetic attacks. Heavier attacks however my pierce the field albeit with severely degraded effect. These fields recycle to full strength every thirty to fifty seconds depending on the use load.
Decoys
    • Built into a Starburn missile system, these units can be set to random flight patterns and contain an active emitter capable of broadcasting the electronic signature of a wide variety of Colonial Pact vessels. Their primary use is to fool enemy sensor systems at long range or in situations where visual systems would not be capable of detecting the decoy for what it is.
Chaff and Flares
    • Consisting of individual eighty cell 100mm diameter munition tubes, each box launcher is loaded with half and half of each type of munition (chaff and maneuvering flares). Each flare can burn for up to two minutes and each chaff munition is capable of expanding out to a radius of two kilometers in zero-gravity conditions.
Active Jammers
    • A powerful shipboard multispectral jamming system that can operate in either a general emission mode or in a selective narrow focus mode. The Grom-3 is primarily targeted against hostile ship, strikecraft, and guided munitions as a means to confuse or simply burn out sensors employs to detect and track targets using the various waveforms of the electromagnetic spectrum. Its effectiveness can vary due to ambient conditions as well as the quality of enemy electronic counter-countermeasures.
